Lovely Lilacs: A Few Recipes

May 23, 2023

Lilac time is a very special and very short sweet time for us here in Colorado.  Here are a few ways to use these flowers for health and well-being, from Mitten Lowe at Journey to Wellness.

We recommend harvesting lilac flowers while they are in full bloom, and making delicious medicine to enjoy through the rest of the year.

Lilac water is so delicious, so easy, and truly medicinal. Simply place fresh lilac flowers in clean, filtered water and let sit for several hours or overnight in the fridge. Enjoy.
A lilac love potion supports us to increase self-love and love of others, and is also said to be a potent aphrodisiac, helping us get excited for life! If you have access to fresh lilac (not sprayed), this is the easiest love potion to make.
You will need:
1 16 oz glass jar and lid
Fresh Lilac flowers removed from stem
80 proof organic vodka or 80 proof alcohol of your choice
Raw honey for later
Love Potion Instructions:
1) Fill your jar to the brim with your fresh lilac flowers. Be sure to smell them over and over (One of the most pleasurable parts).
2) Cover your plant material completely with your alcohol, cover your jar, shake well, label, and put away in a dark area (away from direct sunlight) for four weeks.
3) Strain your love potion and add honey. I recommend eight parts tincture to three parts raw honey. You may need to set your jar with the honey and tincture in warm water to help the honey dissolve.
4) Feel this beautiful plant work through you all year long.

Lilac Honey

Lilac honey is a special, sweet, smelling, and seductive treat!

You will need:
1 16 oz glass jar and lid
Fresh Lilac flowers removed from stem
Raw local honey
Lilac Honey Instructions:
1) If your honey is solid, you may need to set a jar in warm water to soften it up. Be sure not to boil!
2) Fill your 16 oz jar to the brim with your fresh lilac flowers. Be sure to smell them over and over (One of the most pleasurable parts).
3) Cover your plant material completely with honey, cover and label the jar, and enjoy in 2 to 4 weeks. You can strain the flowers out of the honey, or just let them be part of the deliciousness!
