There is so much to look at when you visit Harlequin’s Gardens, it isn’t easy to take it all in!
Today we’re highlighting Special Products that may have escaped your notice, but which will greatly assist your gardening efforts.
Systemica Insect Killer: OMRI Certified Organic; for spider mites, aphids, ants, fungus gnats, fleas etc. Made from Rosemary Oil and Clove Oil with Soapbark (from the Sapindus tree) and Humic Acid (very helpful for plant nutrition). Use as a spray or soil drench. Comes ready to hook to a hose to spray an area, then turn off to use again later. Will kill some insects on contact and will be taken up by the plant to repel if insects try to eat the plant. Safe for People and Pets.
Pole Pruner: Lets you cut branches 12 feet up; will cut 1”-1¼” branches. Much safer than climbing on a ladder, and faster too. Excellent for training trees in the first 5 years of growth. Good for thinning and for shortening long, wispy growth that can break with wet snow or fruit load. Good for compacting large shrubs too. An important tool for any homeowner.
House Plant Sticky Stakes: It’s very common to get fungus gnats, whiteflies and aphids on indoor plants. These yellow sticky cards attract pest insects and they stick to the card. Very effective and non-toxic solution. Put them up when there is a problem, then remove them. Saves the trouble of spraying
Tree Guards: These spiral plastic sleeves easily wrap around the trunks of small trees to protect them from winter sunscald, mower and string-trimmer damage, rabbits chewing and deer antler scraping. Animals can cause serious damage in one night. Protect your trees and your investment. These sleeves are much better for the tree than the paper wraps that hold moisture against the bark to rot it, and they do not have to be removed every spring. Especially good for aspens and young fruit trees, and any tree with smooth bark.
Illuminated Magnifying Loupe: great close up look magnified 10 times: see spider mites; identify an insect to see if it is friend or foe; children love to look at plants, insects, their hand, paper, dirt. Battery-powered light really improves what can be seen; make sure it gets turned off after use. A high quality tool; a great science ‘toy’. Very useful aid in locating removing small splinters and spines.
