Simple Ways we can Respect our Soil

April 21, 2026

Keep it Covered: Exposed soil is vulnerable to water loss, microbial die-off, erosion and degradation. Use mulch or cover crops to protect it.

Amend Responsibly: Improve soil quality by adding compost or decomposed organic matter, rather than relying solely on chemical fertilizers.

Minimize Disturbance (No-Till): Avoid unnecessary tilling or digging, which disrupts the soil microbiome and structure.

Avoid Compaction: Never walk on, drive on, or store items on garden beds. Compacted soil prevents air and water from reaching plant roots.

Harlequin’s has all your soil needs so that you can maintain and increase your soil’s health and potential.

Here are some of our bagged soil products.  Come see us to check out our entire inventory.

Eco plus compost- rejuvenates soil, enhances nutrient uptake, and increases water retention. It acts as a nutrient-rich “probiotic” for the ground, boosting soil fertility and supporting beneficial microbial life, making it ideal for gardens, lawns, and sustainable farming

Fine wood chip mulch-  enhances garden health by providing superior weed suppression, retaining soil moisture, and regulating temperatures to protect roots

Bio-char- is a houseing complect for microbes, a reservoir for water and nutrients, boosts plants ability to take up water and nutrients,  decreases greenhouse gasses and buffers the effects of toxic elements

Mushroom Block innoculant- enhance soil health by introducing beneficial fungi that break down organic matter, improve soil structure, and increase moisture retention. They act as a nutrient-rich, sustainable organic fertilizer that boosts plant growth and supports soil microbial activity

Yum yum mix-  boosts soil humus, feeds beneficial microbes, and promotes water retention without the use of harsh chemicals

Expanded shale-  a highly effective, permanent soil amendment, particularly for heavy clay, that improves aeration, drainage, and root development. It acts as a permanent “clay buster” that resists decomposition, reduces soil compaction, and balances moisture levels by absorbing water and releasing it slowly.

Hydrosource crystals-  hold hundreds of times their weight in water to reduce irrigation needs by up to 50%. These polymer crystals store water and nutrients, improving plant growth, and increasing germination rates.
