Planting Seeds, by Eve Reshetnik Brawner

January 6, 2026

I confess. I am definitely a plant hoarder. Every year, I amass a formidable collection of plant starts, and then spend evenings through the season walking arou

Welcome to Harlequin’s Gardens 34th year! As gardeners, we demonstrate that we are optimists. We dedicate time, money, effort and hope in the belief that this will result in at least some measure of successful growth. We can never expect that everything will go as we hoped and planned, but at the very least, we will have learned something. The more we know going into the gardening season, the more our optimism will ‘bear fruit’.

Harlequin’s Gardens is inaugurating our 2026 season this Thursday January 8th beginning a three-day ‘week’ when we’ll be open from 10am to 4pm. This will be our schedule every week through January and February. During this time, we are ready to help you succeed in creating and maintaining the kind of garden you want to grow! We have terrific seeds, seed-starting soils, pots, and trays. We’re launching an ‘Ask a Garden Pro’ event on the next two Saturdays (sign up here). We have excellent gardening books and our schedule of empowering classes is coming together. Check out our superior soil products, and indispensable gardening tools.

We also want to thank you sincerely for shopping at our Holiday Gift Market. We are way off the beaten path, so we are hugely grateful that you realize we work hard to assemble an amazing, unique array of high-quality, creative and sustainable gifts, largely from local artisans, for everyone on your list. Unlike big box stores, grocery, supermarket and hardware stores, we grow a great many of our own plants. Consequently, we need to employ professional staff year-round. And so, we love that you support us beyond the growing season! You’re the best!
