Nourishing Waters, Comforting Sky by Stephen R. Jones

Boulder naturalist, ecologist and author Stephen Jones has been visiting Pine Lake in the Nebraska Sandhills for 35 years. In his beautifully written and moving account, Jones “lends us his naturalist’s eye and compassionate sensibility…..to bring us intimately close to this natural treasure of subtle and stunning beauty “ (Chris Hoffman) and the remarkable richness of its wildlife.

He includes observations, encounters and relationships with fascinating birds and other creatures most of us never get to meet, all the while taking the greatest care to make no disturbance to the natural order. These personal stories are accompanied by historical accounts, words of insight from Native American leaders, grassland ecologists and Sandhill ranchers. Close to 20 years ago, Mikl and Eve attended a very beautiful slide presentation of the Sand Hills from Steve Jones that brought tears of awe and beauty to their eyes. In this book, Jones’s richly descriptive prose succeeds in vividly depicting this remote wild landscape and its inhabitants without a single illustration or photograph. We think you will appreciate Nourishing Waters, Comforting Sky.

Don’t forget: if you become a Harlequin’s Gardens Member, you will receive a 25% discount on all full-priced books, all season long!
