How are we supposed to live our normal lives, going to the grocery store, preparing our garden, when our own government is causing so much death and suffering? It is obvious that our lives will also suffer as a result. We cannot ignore this and we can do little about it right now. Yet we cannot freeze up; we have to go forward. We can support change and we can radiate love and kindness in our lives.
Being in Nature and gardening has always been healing for people in painful circumstances. Caring for our children, our loved-ones, our neighbors, our pets and plants, is life-affirming and good medicine. In spite of everything, Life is good. And when we support Life, we are sharing in genuine goodness, and it feels good.
Harlequin’s Gardens makes its small contribution to benefitting the planet and human joy by running our little business and offering our resources to help you garden. Regardless of difficult circumstances, this is what we do. We are having our own troubles surviving as a business right now, and we need to ask your help to support and promote our “Go Fund Me” appeal. If many people contribute a little, we will survive and “build back better”. We have a good team, and we are making good progress.
There’s nothing and nobody that can stop the force of Spring. We all feel it: “Spring Fever”. It is a joyful energy and affirmation of the resilience of Life. And at Harlequin’s Gardens, we are Springing Forward into action. We knew it was coming, so we started early last fall, ordering seeds and plants and soil products, making repairs, planning and improving our operations.
Now we have a good supply of soil building products that support soil life and plant life and lead to garden health and nutrient-dense foods. Early Spring is the ideal time to dig those ingredients in before planting. Every week more and more plants are becoming available at Harlequin’s. The unseasonably warm and dry conditions this spring give us an opportunity to plant and establish hardy perennials, shrubs and trees early, and even if it snows, the many plants that we overwintered outdoors or in unheated hoop-houses will be hardy and successful. The first cool-season veggie starts are coming this week! Tender vegetables, flowers and herbs will follow in just a few weeks. By mid-April you will be able to plant tomatoes in our protective Solar Caps!
We have a very good selection of native shrubs, roses, clematis and other vines and fruit trees, as well as some perennials that were overwintered outdoors and are ready to plant.
We’re also well stocked in gloves, essential gardening tools and accessories, excellent organic fertilizers and soil amendments, and beautiful houseplants.
Come out to the countryside; visit our ducks and geese, and celebrate Spring with us!
