For our Fall Sale
Harlequin’s is offering an exceptional variety of trees, mostly in easy-to-plant 5-gallon sizes and some larger in 10 or 15 gallon pots. Our container-grown trees have complete root systems, unlike most big trees sold that have most of their roots left in the field when they are dug. Our trees start growing right away and they don’t need staking or excessive watering. Some of our hard-to-find varieties are in short supply, with only 1 or 2 specimens available.

Kentucky Coffee Tree
Plant in a hole 2-3 times wider than the pot and the same depth as the soil in the pot. Mix 1/3 compost with 2/3 of your own soil. We recommend applying one tablespoon of soluble mycorrhizae (beneficial fungi) mixed with one gallon of water sprinkled on the roots to support root development and nutrient uptake.
Fall is an excellent time to plant these container-grown trees, before it gets too cold. Now is when a plant’s energy is going down to its roots.
Chinkapin Oak: We have two left, so you must not know what a great tree the Chinkapin Oak is: attractive leaf shape, beautiful oval form to 40’+; fairly fast growing and tolerant of our alkaline soil, unlike many oak varieties. Available THIS WEEK ONLY!

Young Burr Oak
Netleaf Hackberry: native to Boulder, drought-tolerant; a great character tree to 15’-25’. We grow these from seed; you won’t find this one at another nursery.
Chicago Hardy Fig: maybe outside? Probably best inside for the winter. These are not the runts you get from mail-order nurseries; these are robust 2-year specimens! Available THIS WEEK ONLY!
Native Smaller Trees: Hop Tree, Silver Buffaloberry and columnar ‘Totem’ Buffaloberry, New Mexican Privet, Rocky Mt. Juniper, Chokecherry, Rocky Mt. Maple, Wild Plum, seed-grown Aspen, Gambel Oak

Fruit Trees!
We also have a good supply of Fruit Trees now. Sorry, there’s no discount on these mostly Harlequin-grown, organic, well-adapted varieties. We choose them carefully for cold-hardiness, ability to ripen in our short growing season, great flavor and disease resistance. They all come with bark-protecting Spiral Tree-Guard trunk wraps.
