Stop the Spray on Red Hill

October 27, 2026

Please email the Commissioners and Director Seuc today

Ask them to delay or stop the application of indaziflam on our public lands (sample message below).

  • All three commissioners: commissioners@bouldercounty.gov
  • Commissioner Claire Levy: clevy@bouldercounty.gov
  • Commissioner Marta Loachamin: mloachamin@bouldercounty.gov
  • Parks and Open Space Director Jason Seuc: jseuc@bouldercounty.org
  • Commissioner Ashley Stolzmann (thank her for opposing it): astolzmann@bouldercounty.gov

Sample message (copy and paste or make it your own)

Dear [Commissioner Last Name/Director Seuc],

You have heard from residents many times that most of the public does not want pesticides sprayed on our public lands. My name is [your name], and I’m a Boulder County resident writing to ask you to stop the planned drone application of indaziflam on Red Hill. Will you heed that call?

Here are the reasons to stop the spraying of indaziflam:

  • PFAS: Independent testing has found that indaziflam contains PFAS, the persistent “forever chemicals.”
  • Extreme persistence: It remains active in the soil for four years or more, and possibly much longer.
  • Damage to native seed banks: It kills native perennial seeds in the soil, undermining the very plants that make up a healthy landscape.
  • Not true restoration: Wiping out seed banks does not restore land. It strips it.
  • The pesticide treadmill: Spraying leaves barren ground where invasive weeds readily take root, which then justifies more spraying. This is not a one-and-done treatment, whatever some land managers may say.
  • Harm to ecosystems: It is harmful to plants and wildlife, and it lingers in our soil and water.
  • Risks to human health: Exposure and long-term contamination raise real public health concerns.
  • Threat to neighboring farms: Adjacent regenerative farms face the risk of contamination and the loss of their organic and regenerative practices.
  • Drone overspray: Drone operators have limited control over where spray lands, and drift can occur even when buffers are in place.
  • Overstated fire risk: Cheatgrass does not pose the fire danger that chemical companies claim.
  • Better alternatives exist: Safer, proven methods can reduce noxious weeds, and we should be using every one of them before resorting to a persistent chemical.

Please pause this plan and commit to non-chemical alternatives.

Sincerely,
[Your name]

Thank you!

Thank you for taking a few minutes to speak up and help us delay the spray. Be sure to spread the word about this issue, and forward this message to friends, family, and neighbors.
