Shade in Eve’s garden
“The best laid plans of mice and men can still go awry” comes from a 1786 poem entitled “To a Mouse” by Robert Burns. It tells of how he, while ploughing a field, unwittingly upturned a mouse’s nest. The expression was then popularized by the 1937 novel, Of Mice and Men, by John Steinbeck.
