Dicentra
As much as we are looking forward to summer heat and sun, we will be equally grateful for a bit of cool, shady respite. Many of us living in older neighborhoods enjoy mature trees that provide quite a bit of shade. These present a challenge: what plants will thrive beneath them and in their shadow? Right now, Harlequin’s has our biggest selection of plants for dry shade, moist shade, and moderate shade.
Our wonderful assortment includes classic perennials like Hosta, Bleeding Heart (Dicentra), Carpet Bugle (Ajuga), ferns, Lady’s Mantle (Alchemilla), Corydalis, Cranesbill (Geranium) and Japanese Anemone, as well as Hellebore and Golden Wood Poppy, Jacob’s Ladder, Lamium, Lamiastrum and Foxglove (Digitalis), and Eupatorium.
Among the native perennials that prefer some shelter from our intense, high-altitude sunlight,
we have Sticky Geranium (G. viscosissimum), Heart-leaf Golden Alexanders (Zizia aptera), Red
Birds in a Tree (Scrophularia macrantha), Great Blue Lobelia (L. siphilitica), Prairie Smoke
(Geum triflorum), iand Harebell (Campanula rotundifolia).
P.S. – Peonies are here!
