We’re wearing our masks, keeping our distance, disinfecting, etc. It couldn’t be more obvious that we are all connected by the air we breathe in and the biology we breathe out and share through what we touch. It’s not all bad. The microbes in our guts are responsible for helping digest our food and supporting our immune system. Not only that, but 90% of the cells in our bodies are microbe cells, and only 10% are human cells. Kinda makes ya think.
Now that microbes have gotten our attention, it’s probably a good time to really explore and study what’s going on in the micro-biological world around us and within us. We are sharing microorganisms with the entire world. They are us.
On a more delightful subject: Spring Is Here!! No, Harlequin’s Gardens isn’t sending out our Welcome to Spring Newsletter, even though it was written and delivered to the printer. But just look at the spring flowers, the foothills turning green; we’ve got the fever to dig in the soil and help get the green growing!
And we do Welcome you to Spring and to Harlequin’s Gardens. Thank goodness! We are essential as a food-plant supplier, and you are essential as food growers. In spite of the unknowable risk, we are open every Thursday through Sunday, 9am-5pm, until further notice, taking every precaution. Please arrive healthy, with clean hands, wearing a mask and willing to follow our protocols; we would love to see you!
We are offering some of our plants and products for on-line ordering for those who need it, but we ask that you please come out if you can. Fulfilling online orders takes a lot more time and work for us. Our website has all the information you need to place an online order. (With the exception of gift certificate orders, we are not taking any orders by phone.) If you still need to call us, we may already be on the line, so please try calling back a little later. We can’t return 40 calls a day. We are doing our best to serve you, and we really appreciate your patience!
Cultivating food plants has always been a big focus for us, and this year more people than ever are growing their own vegetables and fruits. It’s very inspiring, and a good sign. One customer bought three carts full of veggie starts. We asked her what she was going to do with that many veggies. She said she has a small farm and some of her part-time workers lost their main jobs, so she was offering them the use of a portion of her land and those veggie starts to feed themselves and their families. Yes, we all do better when we all do better.
Mikl’s sister sent us some “Humor Under Siege”. Here are three to tickle you.
“I don’t think anyone expected that when we changed the clocks, we’d go from Standard Time to the Twilight Zone.”
“I’m so excited—it’s time to take out the garbage. What should I wear?”
“This morning I saw a neighbor talking to her cat. It was obvious she thought her cat understood her. I came into my house, told my dog…. we laughed a lot.”
We of the Harlequin’s family wish you good health, good heart and good gardens.
