As we embrace this New Year with the hope it carries for calm, peace, unity, and health, we hope that you are doing well, and anticipating the gardening season ahead. Eve has been placing orders to stock our seed racks for you, and gathering seeds from many great sources to grow another season of exciting species and varieties of Harlequin’s starter plants. More on that, below.
We are looking forward to opening our retail store in two short months, on March 4, and will be open from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm every Thursday to Sunday throughout March.
We will continue to make your visit to Harlequin’s Gardens as safe and enjoyable as possible. During this early season, we will focus on seeds, seed starting supplies, soils and soil amendments, offering over-wintered plants, and offering a series of on-line ZOOM classes. As more folks are vaccinated and Covid precautions permit, we hope to increase the number of days that we are open. We may offer a new on-line ordering program for those that are immune compromised and cannot visit the nursery in person.
In anticipation of our opening, we’re filling our staff roster, and already have filled one new full-time sales position, Plant Production & Inventory Coordinator, and Office & Staff Coordinator! Still, there are opportunities open including Cashier, Grounds & Garden Maintenance, Mikl’s Assistant, and more Sales & Customer Service positions, for which we hope that you consider applying! Our nursery season begins mid-February and goes through October 31. Some work may continue on a reduced schedule through the winter.
CASHIER: 5 days/week
The customer’s experience at the cash register is the final wrap-up of their visit to our nursery. So, we are looking for someone who loves people and loves plants, is good natured, patient, and efficient and detail-oriented, and able to run a digital cash register. This full-time position will include training.
GROUNDS & GARDEN MAINTENANCE: 4 to 5 days/week
Keeping the Harlequin’s display gardens and grounds well-tended is important to us! This key position will include watering, weeding, amending soil, planting in display gardens, getting to know our plants and their needs. We are looking for a team member who is positive, energetic, strong, observant, and attentive to detail.
MIKL’S ASSISTANT: Full-time, Tuesday through Saturday
This position involves mostly outdoor work, which includes driving a small truck, assisting with grounds projects, loading soil bags, unloading and moving plants, and performing some plant care. Mikl is looking for someone who is creative, cheerful, and has a ‘can-do’ attitude. Harlequin’s is a respectful, pesticide-free environment.
SALES & CUSTOMER SERVICE: Full and Part-time available
Our sales and customer service staff members are integral to the success of our nursery! In this position, one can expect to work on a wide diversity of tasks over the course of the season. The basis of the job entails greeting customers and working with them to help select plants and products that will be successful. Each Sales & Customer Service team member is asked to take on responsibility for overseeing one category of our nursery stock, such as Perennials, or Roses, or Grasses & Vines, etc. Other functions include preparing plants for sale (weeding, labeling, pricing, etc.). We are looking for team members who like and know plants and gardening, who are cheerful and friendly, with a ‘can-do’ attitude, and who communicate well. Training will be provided.
